Today, I want you to meet Jaime.
Jamie is a rugby partner living in Bordeaux, where her partner plays for UBB. She’s built a life here, has her routines, her friends, her family life…
But there was still one question she hated being asked:
“How long have you been in France?”
Because answering four years when she still didn’t feel able to really speak French felt, in her words, like “the worst, most embarrassing thing.”
And I know Jaime isn’t the only rugby partner who has felt this way.
Whether you live in a big city like Bordeaux or a small rugby town, whether you arrived a few months ago or years ago, it’s surprisingly easy to find your circle, get by… and keep putting French off.
Jamie decided she didn’t want to anymore.
And rather than tell you what happened next, I’ll let her tell you herself. Her words are much better than mine.
Thank you, Jamie, for trusting me with your French and for sharing your experience so openly. I’m so proud of how far you’ve come. 🫶🏼
And if you listen to Jamie and think “That could be me”, send me a message.
Let’s talk about how French could change your experience of life here too.
A bientôt !
Faustine
