Learning French in France: when even walking the dog suddenly feels difficult

When walking the dog becomes difficult… because of French

Before moving to France, walking the dog was just… walking the dog.

You passed someone:

“Morning!”
“Oh, he’s lovely!”
“How old is he?”
“Boy or girl?”

Just a tiny, normal conversation.

Then you move to France.

Someone stops. Smiles at your dog. Says something…

And suddenly: 😳

You don’t understand.
Or you DO understand, but the words don’t come quickly enough.

So you smile, say oui oui 😅… and keep walking.

And THAT can be frustrating.

Because it’s not about having a 20-minute conversation in perfect French.

You just want those normal little moments back.

You don’t need to “be fluent”

Maybe your French goal right now is simply to have that little chat:

Bonjour ! — Hello!
Oh, il est beau ! — Oh, he’s lovely!

Il a quel âge ? — How old is he?
C’est un mâle ou une femelle ? — Boy or girl?

And it’s the same outside school, in a shop or with the girls at the rugby club.

These little conversations are how you start connecting with people and creating your own life in France too.

Learn French for YOUR life in France

This is exactly how I work with Women Speak French.

I help partners of professional rugby players learn French online through the situations they actually need in their everyday life in France.

Not French just for the sake of learning French.

Your French. Your situations. Your life.

We practise so you can start speaking, feel more confident and become more autonomous little by little.

Because sometimes progress isn’t:

“I’m fluent!”

It’s simply coming home from your dog walk and thinking:

“I had a little conversation in French today!” 💛

And THAT counts.
